Forty years later the grant was extended to neighboring land, and in 1711 the Jewish community bought more land from the Convent of San Francesco alle Scale<\/a>. We do not know the exact location of the old cemetery, but there had to be one, since the Jews had been living here since before 1000 AD.<\/span><\/p>\n

Because of coastal erosion, many tombstones have been lost. Some of them have been recovered and placed back in the cemetery.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Cemetery is located in a beautiful meadow, where narcissuses and purple orchids bloom in spring, to which, in September, the blooming colchicums bid farewell.
