\u201cCardeto\u201d in Italian means thistle, a plant that once grew abundantly in these areas. Plans to create the park were drafted in 1972. In 1988, the \u201cCommittee for Cardeto Park\u201d, a community association, obtained from the local government that the area be protected.<\/span><\/p>\n

The park was inaugurated in 2005, in memory of Paolo Luccioni, president of the Committee, who had passed away nine years earlier.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cardeto Park is mainly shrubland featuring the broom, Mediterranean buckthorn, hawthorn, honeysuckle, flowering ash, and cypress. The wallflower, caper and snapdragon grow on walls exposed to the south.<\/span><\/p>\n

The park, a popular place to relax, do sports, picnic or just go for a stroll, that offers visitors beautiful views of the city and the Riviera, also includes some landmarks of historical value:<\/span><\/p>\n
