PORTONOVO
Portonovo is a bay on the slopes of Mount Conero, a mountain inhabited in Prehistoric times, with 400m-high cliffs. The shore was formed by a landslide that detached from Pian Grande and glistens with white pebbles of Conero stone.
The beach, part of which is public, is a long stretch of white stones and gravel. You can find here many typical restaurants that serve delicious fish dishes, including “moscioli”, the wild mussels of the Conero Riviera, a local delicacy that you must try.
Near the beach there are two brackish lakes surrounded by rushes and marsh straws: Lago Profondo near the church of Santa Maria di Portonovo and Lago Grande or Calcagno near the Molo, and two buildings of historical interest, Torre de Bosis and the Fortino Napoleonico.
Portonovo, Blue Flag since 2010, is a beach popular with tourists from all over Italy and abroad, that offers an awesome panorama, crystal clear water, and an unforgettable culinary experience.
