LIGHTHOUSE

The Lighthouse of Ancona is located in Cappuccini Hill, after which it is named, in the Cardeto Park, popular with runners and walkers.

The Lighthouse was built in 1860 and has been inactive since 1965. It had been closed for forty years before it was restored in 2000, and brought back to its former glory. Owing to the volunteers of the local Legambiente chapter (an environmentalist association), the Lighthouse has been a very popular attraction.

Nowadays, unfortunately, the old lighthouse is closed and not open to visitors.

The new lighthouse, just a short walk away, was inaugurated in 1972. Standing 15m tall at 104m above the sea level, it is a square tower in which each vertex points towards a cardinal direction.

Reasons to visit:

  • One of the most beloved landmarks
  • It is located in the Cardeto Park for a day of nature.
  • Breathtaking view
